3 Ways to Manage Your Time Better

“If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you_ll never get it done.” – Bruce Lee

Are you struggling with time management? Do you blame your lack of this skill on college because of studying, class, and work? Well guess what? I’m in college too! And while I may not have it all together, I am pretty good at time management and planning. Here are a few tips for you to better manage your time.

1. Purchase a planner

This is extremely important for my daily responsibilities. I am extremely organized. I also have pretty good penmanship which helps with my cleanliness in my planner. I write down all responsibilities as soon as they are assigned or acknowledged, important dates, and duties I need to accomplish throughout the week. This way I am aware of everything that I have to do by the day, week, and month. Additionally, my planner has an inspirational quote for every month and week which inspires me to accomplish my goals every day!

2. Sync your calendars

Personally, I do not do this as much because I like to write things down and calendar notifications annoy me, but this works for many of my friends. If you depend on technology more than pen and paper, make sure that all of your calendars are synced so that you are aware of your responsibilities on all platforms. This is usually already done if you have products from the same brand such as an iPhone, Macbook, iPad, etc., but if you have different products where you must make separate calendars, you should definitely try to sync the calendars to your email address so that you do not miss anything.

3. Cut out any distractions

This isnt the easiest but it is the most important in my opnion. Many times, as millenials, we are never working on just one thing. We are expert multi-taskers. We can type a paper, read an article, Facetime our friends, watch our favorite tv show, and scroll social media all while listening to music. Unfortunately, this isnt the best recipe to success. In order to manage your time better, you have to cut out these distractions. Time management is dedicating time to those specific items. Once we all learn to cut out our distractions, we’ll notice an improvement in our time management skils.

Love Yourself More

self

Self-love is self appreciation, gratification, and confidence in yourself! The most important component of self-love, in my opinion, is self-worth. The key to self-love is not looking for love in the form of things or people. This unique love comes from within. Many times we (including myself because I am guilty of it) look to others to satisfy us and when we lose that person or thing that was giving us satisfaction, we lose ourselves in the midst of it. When you truly love yourself, it is not people or things that give you such satisfaction. Honestly, I began my self-love journey after seeing multiple Twitter threads from Reyna Biddy and Malanda. People may not believe that a social media account will make you realize how much you lack, but it did. Many times I came across quotes and would just cry. I would cry because I knew I deserved better than what I was allowing in my life. Thus, I made an agreement with myself that I would go on this journey of self-love! I began with reading the Bible and reading devotionals. Now, I am reading self-love and happiness books that encourage me along the way. This is for those of you who have not quite yet reached your full potential but are willing to do the work to achieve it! I hope that you all are able to find yourself and understand your worth. Here are my tips for the journey to self-love:

1. Take some time for yourself.

Whether it’s once a week, once a month, or whenever you have time, make sure you have a day dedicated to yourself. Often times people get so wrapped up in their relationships, classes, jobs, etc. and forget that in order to give your all to these things, you must be whole.

One of my close friends has “Self-love Sundays” where she treats her mind, body, and spirit. Her activities may include reading a new book, getting her nails done, treating herself to a movie, or simply cleaning and preparing for the upcoming week. I recommend you figuring out what makes your body and spirit feel good and take that day to do just that!

2. READ!

I am quite active on Twitter and many times I come across pictures of quotes. These quotes always seem to make me realize how much I need to work on my self-esteem and love myself better. Instead of just reading the quotes and carrying along, I chose to read the books the quotes came from and actually put action towards bettering myself. These are books that I am planning to read, currently reading and/or have already read.

3. Personal Mantra

Make daily affirmations. Create a personal motivational statement that reassures you daily. An example would be “I am capable. I will achieve ANYTHING. I am beautiful.” This mantra is personal to you and your goals. I love to wake up and say my mantra after my morning prayer. This way I feel ready and energized to conquer my day!

4. 100happydays challenge

Another one of my close friends introduced me to the 100happydays challenge! The question it poses is “Can you be happy for 100 days in a row?” You document your experience daily through pictures of what made you happy! It is not a contest but it challenges you to find your true happiness and live a more intentional life. I will be starting this challenge soon! You will find more information about it HERE.

Remember, the journey to self-love is not easy, but it is worth it. Take this journey with me and lets work together to always put ourselves first.

3 Tools to Feed Your Spirit

eat

I began this year with a plan and a purpose. As I have always been a person motivated to achieve all of my goals, I was missing God’s plan and purpose for my life. I was attending Church regularly, thinking that I was living in his image, but I soon realized that I was just hearing His word and not applying it. I have experienced many trials and tribulations although I am very young. Many times I felt as if I was failing God and not living the way he planned for me to. I had to open my heart and my mind and let God in. Feeding my Spirit was a personal lesson and I am dedicating my year to diving deep and looking to God to reveal my purpose.

So, I themed this year the year of fulfillment. I wanted to learn to understand God’s word beyond what I heard from my Bishop in Church. I had to figure out ways to live in God’s image and allow the Holy Spirit to fill my body. For any of you who have struggled to really understand your purpose and God’s meaning for your life, these tools are for you! I purchased a journal and every day I try to write about my findings, my Faith, and also whatever comes to mind. I feel so much closer to God and it has been through my own spiritual journey.

1. Instagram

While you may not think Instagram is a way to grow your faith, I have found a couple of Instagram pages that feature inspirational quotes, life lessons, and scriptures. These pages help me daily as every morning before I start my day, I check my social media pages (such a millennial) and I feel blessed by the Word immediately. Here are my two favorites:

Sprinkle of Jesus

InstaGod Ministries

2. #ASpiritualWarrior

I actually came across #ASpiritualWarrior by Chatoya A. on Twitter. I began to follow Twitter accounts that would remind me of my faith journey and I came across a Scripture challenge. Each day there is a new scripture or book of the Bible (depending on the month). This is a self-study but Twitter has a community of followers where I am able to read their interpretations of the Scriptures and participate in thought-provoking conversations about the Word. Here is the to her TWITTER where you will find the Scripture challenges. She also has a website for those of you who want more than just a Twitter post. Check it out!

3. Eat. Pray. Hustle.: Dream Chasing God’s Way.

This book was AMAZING! I started this devotional as the first way to grow closer to God, through my dreams, and I am so happy I did! This is great for those of you who need God’s Word on a more intimate and personal level. I felt as a go-getter this devotional was catered to me. It was special, and my Faith has grown tremendously through reading this. You can purchase it HERE.

I hope some of you find these helpful and start your own Spiritual Journey. ♥
