Me and a couple of my friends, who also happen to be bloggers, decided we all needed more content for our blogs and wanted to take advantage of the beauty in Washington, DC. After researching popular sites, we found this beautiful wall in Hyattsville, Md. We were able to capture some great shots at the different colored panels. Here are a couple pictures I was able to capture!

This past weekend, I got together with two friends to enjoy brunch in Georgetown at The Tombs where I enjoyed $3 mimosas and a wonderful sausage and bacon sandwich. We have all been so busy with finishing school and working so we struggle to find time in our schedules to have “girl time”. With me needing to be at work at 3, and the restaurant being on the same street as my job, we were able to squeeze in brunch and a quick photoshoot.

I purchased this shirt in December and had not had an opportunity to wear it out since I purchased it. The material is extremely light so I knew I would have to wear it on a warm day with simple pieces to pair with it. I chose to pair this beautiful shirt which is from Forever21 (surprising right? I know!) with black denim and a light boucle coat also from Forever 21. The booties I have on were a last season pick at Steve Madden.

I had an amazing day at brunch and an even better day at work. This was a Sunday well spent.

SoHo | Style File

While spending Spring Break in New York I went shopping in SoHo. Now that I am back in school, this week is for studying, preparation for exams, and registration for my senior year (so exciting). Of course this top was purchased for $10 at a Zara sale. My jacket was a Christmas gift from my mom 2 years ago. Although these boots were extremely comfortable, I was walking all day and eventually purchased sneakers to finish the day in.

Outfit Details:

Top: Zara

Jacket: The North Face

Jeans: H&M

Boots: Steve Madden

Meet Saki Clarke:

She’s a Sophomore, Biology (Pre-Med) major, African-American Studies minor attending Howard University!

How would you describe your personal style?

I take simple pieces and depending on the type of look I’m going for, I either wear sneakers or booties. I don’t like to overdo it. I think cool pieces and simple pieces go great together.

Do you have any celebrity style influences? If so, who?

If I could afford the style I like, it would be Rihanna and Beyonce. I don’t dress like them yet, but once I am able to afford it, I would adopt their style. As of now, my style is influenced by my aunt which is just funky chic.

What are your career aspirations?

Essentially, I want to be a pediatrician. Eventually, I want to start my own practice and become an entrepreneur. I want to start a non-profit to expose underserved youth to science and medicine at an early age.

How did you come up with the name ShadesOfSaki?

I was obsessed with Lana Del Rey’s song Shades of Cool in High School so this name just stuck.

What makes you a BOSS?

I know exactly what I want and exactly what I must do to get it. PERIOD.

It’s been pretty cold in DC lately (Its currently snowing in March) and I’ve been putting less effort into what I wear to class. I am from Savannah, GA and have been in DC for 3 years but I am still not used to this cold weather. As a result, my class outfits have been lots of basics paired with key pieces such as the scarf in this post. I paired this color block scarf with a basic dress, tights, and thigh high boots for a cute and effortless day of classes. I was comfortable and warm (thanks to the scarf). Check out Slay In Grey for more class style pieces!

If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably already seen one of these pics. If you don’t follow me already, FOLLOW HERE. A lot of people wonder how they can get great looks in cold weather. BASICS is the answer. I have so many basic pieces such as this white turtleneck that I can mix and match to go with any great look. The turtleneck is extremely warm and I can layer it with a thermal top if the weather is brisk. I bought this coat for a steal and couldn’t wait to pair it with a simple look. Being that I work at a shoe store, I have so many shoes (mainly heels) that I buy outfits for. Yes, I buy outfits to go with my shoes, and these shoes are on sale now for $50! So next time you’re looking through your closet looking for a great look for the cold, throw on some basics and slay!
